Hey, hopefully you all are gaining access to this site. I hope you all enjoyed our first week of the 6 week mini workshop. Hope you're playing along with the DVD "My Homes Across the Blue Ridge Mountains" in G. Please feel free to view the rest of the DVD, not just the songs, there is some great info between the songs. Also please start practicing your G scale( guitar, mandolin, fiddle, bass, ukelele) get it down, backward and forward, use a metronome, use down and up strokes, this will help with your speed. Banjos, use the Alternating thumb roll with the song, remember your roll is in eighth notes, eight notes per measure. If you're having trouble keeping up, use a metronome until you can get up to the slow jam DVD speed. If it's too slow, use a metronome to go even faster, you're rocking! For now I'd like the banjos to get there rolls down good as our backup rhythm.
We're going to get into Progressions this week and the Nashville Number System. We will also start working on the Circle of Fifths; and yes it's important for this six week session. It's one of the tools to ramp up your learning curve. We will also start ear training. Sounds like a lot but it really isn't. We do a short review to start each session. If someone feels they're not getting it let me know. It's my goal to have everyone at the same level of knowledge at the end of the six weeks.
Keep an eye on this Blog for Supplemental material and links for training aids.
Jeff
