September 2 Marana Wednesday night Workshop and season
Hey everyone, hope you all had a wonderful Summer, got a break from music or played more music. Either way I hope you're ready for another season of Workshops here in Marana for the Desert Bluegrass Association. I'm raring to do some picking as my band took the Summer off as well.
We are planning to keep a lot of things the same as last season yet threw in some new changes also. In September we will be doing a short review of Dave Polstons Progressions Series. Dave will not be available in September due to his blossoming career as a Bluegrass Entertainer. Hopefully he'll be able to join us now and again. this season we will concentrate more on transposing these progressions into four different keys and not rely on using a capo, let's expand our chord library as well as our scale library.
We will also have two songs per month from a Bluegrass band but this time it will be from a Modern Bluegrass Band. So if there are some songs you've been wanting to learn and play from artists you see now at different Festivals, let us know and we'll work to make that happen.
We will continue with our series of Fiddle tunes each month. We really encourage not only playing rhythm for these Fiddle tunes but learning the melodies. Let's all take it to the next level!
In September Mike will go over some Guitar Flatpicking to get the rust out of your summer duldroms.
We are planning on bringing in a group similar to the August Special Workshop to get tips from playing in a band to playing certain instruments in Bluegrass, learn from the pros!
I am planning on doing a repeat mini workshop on using a Capo, why and when. Also using and practicing with a metronome and backing tracks.
If there is interest in a Beginning Bluegrass series we will cover that as well
We are also planning on adding more singing and harmonizing this season as well.
Our Workshop leaders will be Myself, Jim, JoAnn, and Mike. Hank, I'm sure will also step up and from time to time we hope to have Dave back.
So, we have a decent plan for starting the Season and will make minor tweaks and adjustments here and there. We hope you all plan on returning and bring some friends and neighbors and family. We'd like to keep growing and making this Workshop better and better.
I will post the Progressions shortly, along with the September Fiddle Tune and the two September songs from a new artist. As more info becomes available they will be posted.
