Marana DBA Workshop 9/2 part 3 Arkansas Traveller

Hey I've tried to find Arkansas Traveller for other instruments other than guitar. I did find tabs for Fiddle, Mandolin, and Banjo. Problem is some stuff is easier to copy over or send a link than others on this Blog page. Anyway, I will have copies for all instruments for Arkansas Traveller at the Wednesday Workshop. In the meantime, learn the progression. I sent out the Guitar version in D which is the key of the song. A lot of guitar Flatpickers like to play songs in D out of the C position and capo 11. I can't find the C version, if you have it please share it. I'm alright playing it out of D, just move my fretting hand to second position and it makes it easier. If you're not sure what second position is on the guitar, ask me at the Workshop. Here is the link to Arkansas Traveller for Banjo. http://www.hangoutstorage.com/banjohangout.org/storage/tabs/a/tab-arkansas-travel-16960-3536131132012.pdf Please note that the tune is capoed for D, the author flattens the 5th string to F#, a half step lower. The F# is the third of the chord D, so it could work. I know most Banjo players peg their fifth string for A when playing in the key of D, A is the fifth of the D chord and I believe it would be acceptable. Play around with it and let me know what you think. If you didn't understand any of what I wrote here, you are either not a Banjo player or are in serious need of theory from my beginner class, haha! Keep picking Jeff

Marana DBA Workshop 9/2 part 1

Hey all Summers just about over and it's time for the Wednesday night Workshop in Marana to begin. As usual we will start off with some announcements and upcoming Events. Our two tune for September were big hits by a Group called Lonesome River Band, I'm sure you've heard of them if you listen to present day Bluegrass. The songs are "Am I a Fool" I think we'll be doing it in A, sorry still working on the vocals. The second song is " Long Gone" again, I believe in A. Lonesome River does them in B and Bb respectively. Our Fiddle tune for September is Arkansas Traveler. Here are some links:

September 2 Marana Wednesday night Workshop and season

Hey everyone, hope you all had a wonderful Summer, got a break from music or played more music. Either way I hope you're ready for another season of Workshops here in Marana for the Desert Bluegrass Association. I'm raring to do some picking as my band took the Summer off as well. We are planning to keep a lot of things the same as last season yet threw in some new changes also. In September we will be doing a short review of Dave Polstons Progressions Series. Dave will not be available in September due to his blossoming career as a Bluegrass Entertainer. Hopefully he'll be able to join us now and again. this season we will concentrate more on transposing these progressions into four different keys and not rely on using a capo, let's expand our chord library as well as our scale library. We will also have two songs per month from a Bluegrass band but this time it will be from a Modern Bluegrass Band. So if there are some songs you've been wanting to learn and play from artists you see now at different Festivals, let us know and we'll work to make that happen. We will continue with our series of Fiddle tunes each month. We really encourage not only playing rhythm for these Fiddle tunes but learning the melodies. Let's all take it to the next level! In September Mike will go over some Guitar Flatpicking to get the rust out of your summer duldroms. We are planning on bringing in a group similar to the August Special Workshop to get tips from playing in a band to playing certain instruments in Bluegrass, learn from the pros! I am planning on doing a repeat mini workshop on using a Capo, why and when. Also using and practicing with a metronome and backing tracks. If there is interest in a Beginning Bluegrass series we will cover that as well We are also planning on adding more singing and harmonizing this season as well. Our Workshop leaders will be Myself, Jim, JoAnn, and Mike. Hank, I'm sure will also step up and from time to time we hope to have Dave back. So, we have a decent plan for starting the Season and will make minor tweaks and adjustments here and there. We hope you all plan on returning and bring some friends and neighbors and family. We'd like to keep growing and making this Workshop better and better. I will post the Progressions shortly, along with the September Fiddle Tune and the two September songs from a new artist. As more info becomes available they will be posted. If you have any comments or input, please email me at maranadba@gmail.com Jeff
